Bisons Outlast Huskies in Hard-Fought 87–80 Battle!

The Huskies came ready to play last night, bringing intensity and sharp execution from the opening tip. It took the Herd a few minutes to find their rhythm as Saskatchewan jumped out to a 23–17 lead after the first quarter. But the Bisons dug in, battling back in the second to tie the game 41–41 at halftime.

Rookie Ramoji Nyagudi led the early charge with 12 first-half points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Daren Watts added 8 points, while Samuel Jensen knocked down key shots to give the Herd a lift. The back-and-forth continued in the third quarter, with Manitoba clinging to a narrow 63–61 edge heading into the final frame.

Though Mason Kraus wasn’t lighting it up from the field, he took command of the offense—breaking down the defense and finding teammates for open looks. His playmaking sparked a strong finish from the Herd, as Watts caught fire with four second-half threes. Kraus finished with a game-high 9 assists.

Taven Vigilance also provided a huge boost off the bench, igniting the team with a personal seven-point burst in the second half that swung momentum Manitoba’s way.

With two minutes remaining, Watts delivered the dagger - driving hard to the hoop, finishing through contact, and drawing an intentional foul. The Huskies’ coach protested the call and picked up a technical, giving Manitoba extra free throws. Watts calmly sank both, and the Bisons converted on the ensuing possession to extend the lead to 10 - putting the game out of reach.

Inside, Cieran O’Hara was a force, grinding out 10 points and 13 rebounds, while the Bisons’ bench made a major impact, outscoring Saskatchewan’s reserves 25–11.

Coach Kirby Schepp was proud of his team’s effort in securing the weekend sweep but noted that free-throw shooting remains a focus moving forward. The Bisons went just 12-for-27 (44.4%) from the line—an area Schepp says will need to tighten up as conference play continues.
