Herd Hoops Honour Roll Inductees
The Herd Hoops Club Committee (Bisons Men’s Basketball Alumni Committee) is proud to announce the Class of 2027 Herd Hoops Honour Roll Inductees.
The Herd Hoops Honour Roll recognizes the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and teams who have made a significant impact on the UM Bisons Men’s Basketball program.
This recognition includes accomplishments during their time as players, coaches, or staff, as well as continued contributions as alumni in support of the program.
While many Bisons alumni have notable achievements beyond the Bisons, the Herd Hoops Honour Roll focuses specifically on accomplishments and contributions directly related to the UM Bisons Men’s Basketball program.

Joe Ogoms
Player Category
Joe played three seasons with the Bisons from 1984 to 1987 and was a leader of the team's 1985 CIAU Bronze Medal squad.
He earned CIAU First Team All-Canadian honours in 1985-86 and was named a CIAU Second Team All-Canadian and Championship Tournament All-Star in 1984-85.
Joe was a GPAC First Team All-Star in both 1984-85 and 1985-86, and a GPAC Second Team All-Star in 1986-87.
As a rookie in 1984-85, he was named GPAC Rookie of the Year and selected to the GPAC All-Rookie Team.
Joe played for the Canadian National Team and went on to play professional basketball for several years.
Bob Town
Player Category
Bob played five seasons with the Bisons from 1967 to 1972 and was a leader of the team's 1971 CIAU Silver Medal squad.
He earned CIAU Second Team All-Canadian honours in 1970-71 and was named to the WCIAA First Team in 1970-71 and the GPAC First Team All-Star team in 1971-72.
Bob also received the Bisons' Most Valuable Player Award in 1971-72.
Following his university career, he went on to play for the St. Andrews Super Saints, winning two national championships, and spent four seasons with the Canadian National Basketball Team, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
Carl Ridd (posthumous)
Player Category
Carl played four seasons with the Bisons from 1947 to 1951 and was one of the most prolific scorers in program history, leading the team in scoring every season.
At his peak, he averaged approximately 25 points per game, making him one of the top collegiate scorers in North America at the time.
Following his university career, Carl represented Canada at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki and also competed at the FIBA World Championship, where he was named to the All-Tournament Second Team.
Bud Fraser (posthumous)
Builder Category
Bud served as head coach of the Bisons from 1951 to 1966 and was a foundational figure in the early development of the program.
Prior to his arrival, UM had withdrawn from the Western Canada Inter-University Athletic Union (WCIAU), which included universities from Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
Bud successfully advocated for the university's reinstatement in the conference, securing approval from the administration to renew the Bisons' membership.
He also established the standards, culture, and competitive spirit that would define the program for decades, leading the Bisons to three consecutive WCIAU championships in 1955, 1956, and 1957, at a time when no national university championship existed.
Don Hunter
Builder Category
Don served as head coach of the Bisons from 1972 to 1981, compiling a record of 186 wins and 72 losses (72%-win percentage).
During his tenure, the Bisons won CIAU Gold (1976), Silver (1975), Consolation (1974), and CIAU Final Eight (1978), along with four GPAC championships.
A dedicated educator and coach during his time at the University of Manitoba, he was named CIAU Coach of the Year twice, in 1974 and 1975.

The 1971 Bisons were the WCIAA Champions and CIAU Silver Medalists with a league record of 17-1 (0.944) and an overall record of 32-6 (0.842).
