Preamble
The Herd Hoops Club (hereinafter referred to as the “Club”) was created
in the spirit of camaraderie and pride in Bisons Men’s Basketball. Through
mentorship, fundraising, events, and recognition of excellence, the Club
provides opportunities for alumni and supporters to give back, stay connected,
and help ensure the legacy of Bisons Men’s Basketball continues for generations
to come.
The works in collaboration with the University of Manitoba Alumni
Relations, Donor Relations and Bisons Sports.
Article I: Name
The official name of the organization is the Herd Hoops Club.
Article II: Membership
- Membership in the
Herd Hoops Club is open to all former players, coaches, team staff,
and supporters of the University of Manitoba Men’s Basketball team.
- The Herd Hoops Committee
(hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”) serves as the Club’s leadership
group.
Article III: Purpose
The Committee:
- Fosters
connections among former members of the University of Manitoba Men’s
Basketball team.
- Supports
and promotes the current University of Manitoba Men’s Basketball program.
- Organizes
events, reunions, and activities that strengthen alumni engagement.
- Provides
mentorship and networking opportunities for current players.
- Assists in
fundraising efforts to enhance the basketball program.
- Manages
the Herd Hoops Honour Roll, in collaboration with Bisons Sports.
- Manages the
fundraising for the Together We Rise Fund Campaign, in
collaboration with UM Donor Relations and Bisons Sports.
Article IV: Governance and the Committee
- The
Committee will consist of the following officers:
- Chair
- Vice Chair
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- The
current head coach of the Men’s Basketball program (ex officio)
- Members
at Large
- The
inaugural Committee officers will be chosen by the following founding
members of the Herd Hoops Club: Greg Daniels, Rick Watts, Ross Wedlake,
Wayne Ruff, Andrew Stambrook, and Ogo Okwumabua.
- Officers
will serve three-year terms, after which the position is open for re-election.
- If a
position opens before the end of a term, the Committee may appoint an
interim officer from current members until the next scheduled election.
- Officers
are elected by a majority vote of the Committee at a special meeting.
- Unless
otherwise noted in these Bylaws, decisions will be made by a simple
majority vote of the Committee.
Article V: Meetings
- The
Committee will meet at least twice a year to review activities, plan
upcoming initiatives, and discuss Club business.
- Special
meetings may be called by the Committee as required.
- A quorum
for meetings will consist of one-half of the active Committee members.
Article VI: Finances
- The Club
may accept donations from members to cover ongoing costs such as the Herd
Hoops Club newsletter, website, Annual Meet the Team / Alumni Family Fun
Day, Herd Hoops Honour Roll, and general administration expenses.
- As the Club
is not a registered charity, tax receipts cannot be issued.
- The
Treasurer will keep accurate financial records and provide an annual
financial report.
- All
expenses must be approved by a majority vote of the Committee.
- A Herd Hoops Club bank account will be established, with signing authority granted to three individuals approved by the Committee. Any transaction must be signed by at least two of the three signing authorities.
Article VII: Subcommittees
- The Committee
may establish
subcommittees to address specific tasks, initiatives, or ongoing
responsibilities.
- Subcommittees may be
standing (permanent) or ad hoc (temporary) and will support the purpose
and activities of the Club.
- Examples include, but are not limited to: Honour Roll, Fundraising, and Alumni Events.
Article VIII: Recruitment of New Committee Members
- New committee members may be nominated by existing members or self-nominate.
- Eligible committee members are men’s basketball alumni or community members with an interest to support the men’s basketball program.
- Membership is confirmed by a simple majority vote of the current Committee.
Article VIII: Amendments
- Any Committee
member may propose amendments to these Bylaws.
- Adoption of amendments requires a
unanimous vote of the Committee members present.
Article IX: Dissolution
- The Club
may be dissolved by a three-fourths majority vote of active Committee members
at a properly called meeting.
- If the
Club is dissolved, any remaining funds will be donated to the University
of Manitoba Men’s Basketball Program.
Article X: Adoption
These Bylaws take effect upon approval by a majority vote of the founding
members and will remain in force unless amended or dissolved as outlined above.
