The Herd fall to 1-2 on the season, losing a heartbreaker to the Regina Cougars, 77-72.
The Bisons got off to a sluggish start, trailing 17–12 after the first quarter and 32–28 at halftime.
Although they outshot the Cougars 34–27 in the opening half, the Herd couldn’t find their rhythm, shooting just 29.4% (10–34) from the field and 18% (2–11) from beyond the arc.
The Herd regrouped at halftime and came out firing in the third quarter, shooting 62% (8–13) from the field and 43% (3–7) from three-point range. Their offensive surge outscored the Cougars 27–21, giving the Bisons a 55–53 lead heading into the final frame.
However, Regina responded with a strong fourth quarter while Manitoba cooled off down the stretch, shooting just 33% (5–15). The Cougars outscored the Bisons 24–17 in the final period to pull away for a 77–72 victory.
Free throws proved costly for the Herd, who converted only 21 of 35 attempts (60%) from the line, while the Cougars made the most of their chances, going 12 of 15 (80%).
