The Herd defeated a young but scrappy Algoma squad 72–51 on Friday night.
Manitoba jumped out to an early lead, but as both benches saw action, Algoma battled back to stay within reach. The Bisons led 20–18 after the first quarter and 38–31 at halftime before pulling away in the second half, outscoring Algoma 34–20 and finishing strong down the stretch.
The Herd showcased their depth with 14 players seeing action, dominating the interior by outscoring Algoma 40–24 in the paint and earning a 20–12 edge in second-chance points.
Rookie 6’9” forward Ramgogi Nyagudi, turned in his best performance as a Bison, posting 18 points and four rebounds.
Veteran guard Tito Obasoto was excellent at both ends, controlling the pace of play and contributing 12 points (6-for-12), seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Daren Watts was perfect from the field (3-for-3) for eight points, while Brandt Lenz added eight of his own.
The Bisons were without two key veterans, Mason Kraus and Cieran O’Hara, both sidelined with injuries. Neither will dress tonight - the team’s depth has stepped up impressively in their absence.
The Herd remains hopeful both veterans will be ready to return next weekend as league play gets underway.
With the win, Manitoba improves to 4–2 in preseason play.
