BISONS MAKE THEIR HOME PRE-SEASON DEBUT!
Matthew Loewen Invitational Tournament
October 8-10
IGAC
Bison alumni are invited to IGAC October 8–10 as the Herd takes the court at home for the first time this season in the inaugural Matthew Loewen Invitational Basketball Tournament.
The tournament is named in memory of Matthew Loewen, son of John and Gail Loewen, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 39.
Following John Loewen’s extraordinary $1 million contribution to the Bisons men’s basketball program, this tournament has been named in honour of his son, celebrating Matt's love of basketball and the values he embodied both on and off the court.
Matt was an accomplished basketball player who helped lead the Red River Rebels to a championship in 2012, earning Tournament MVP honours.
But his impact extended well beyond his accomplishments on the court. Matt was known for his leadership, kindness, compassion, sense of humour and commitment to teamwork.
Whether competing on the basketball court, supporting his colleagues at Payworks or spending time with family and friends, he led by example and had a positive influence on those around him.
The tournament will serve as a lasting tribute to Matt and a celebration of the leadership, friendship and team spirit that defined his life.
Come out, reconnect with fellow alumni and support the Herd as they make their home pre-season debut on their new basketball court!
