Bisons Sports Celebrates the 1976 Team’s 50th Anniversary and Induction into Herd Hoops Honour Roll

Coach Schepp and Bison Sports did an incredible job celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Bisons men’s basketball team at last night’s game. Family members, friends, Bisons alumni, and fans were on hand to honour this historic group.
The evening included a tribute video, followed by individual introductions of each team member. Emerging from the Bisons’ bench and walking through a tunnel formed by the current players, the 1976 team made their way to center court to a warm ovation.

Each member of the championship squad was then presented with a retro 1976 jersey by current Bisons players - a special moment that bridged generations of the program.

The 1976 Bisons team were also inducted into the inaugural Herd Hoops Honour Roll at last night’s game. Following the tribute celebrating the team’s 50th anniversary, President Benarroch presented each team member with a Herd Hoops Honour Roll certificate.

The celebration continued after the final buzzer with a post-game reception, attended by more than 100 guests and generously hosted by Bison Sports. A huge thank you to Bison Sports for organizing a memorable and meaningful evening enjoyed by all!

Looking ahead, the following Bisons will be inducted into the Class of 2026 Herd Hoops Honour Roll during a pre-game celebration on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when the Bisons face the Wesmen:

Players: Terry Ball, Darryl Rumsey, Rick Watts, Jim Wright (deceased)
Bison Pillars: John Embry, John Loewen, Dave Mills
