You know the saying: “Defense wins games.” That couldn’t have been truer last night, as the Herd delivered one of their best defensive performances of the season against the sharpshooting Wolfpack.
Early in the second quarter, with the Bisons trailing 27-17, Coach Kirby called a timeout. Whatever he said in that huddle worked. The Herd turned up the intensity on defense, sparking an 18-4 run to take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
The game remained tight throughout the second half, setting up a dramatic finish. With six seconds left and the Herd clinging to a one-point lead, Tito Obasoto stepped to the line and calmly drained both free throws to extend the margin to three. The Wolfpack had one last chance to force overtime, but the Herd’s defense pressured a difficult shot, and Watts secured the rebound to seal the victory.
Despite shooting just 33% from the field, the Bisons made up for it with disciplined play—committing only eight turnovers—and relentless defense, racking up ten steals and creating 17 turnovers.
